The Stout family has a long, and somewhat famous history. Most of the Stout's in America descend from Richard Stout and Penelope Kent Van Printzin/Princin. Penelope and her first husband, according to legend, sailed for the New World, but their ship was wrecked near Sandy Hook. The husband was killed by Indians, and Penelope was severely injured. But she survived and married Richard Stout about 1644. Richard Stout(1615-1705) married Penelope Kent Van Princin (1622-1732) He served in the British Navy. At New Amsterdam, he left his ship and became a Netherlands subject. He owned a plantation on Long Island in 1643, then was granted a patent for a large section of New Jersey, near Monmouth County. He and Penelope had 10 children: John 1645-1724 Peter 1654-1703 Richard 1646-1717 Sarah 1656- James 1648- Jonathan 1660-1722 Mary 1650- David 1667-1732 Alice 1652- Benjamin 1669-1734 This line will now follow Jonathan Stout and his son Benjamin who moved on to WV. Children include: Jonathan 1715-1811 Ezekiel Hezekiah 1723-1814 Hosea Benjamin 1736-1788 Mary Zebulon 1699-1788 Nathaniel 1731-1799 Ezekiel Stout married Sarah Drake. Born at Hopewell, Huntington Co., NJ. Ezekiel and his wife moved to Harrison County, (W.) VA after the Revolution. Children: Mary Benjamin 1777-abt 1824 Hannah 1766-1846 Hezekiah 1777-1854 Daniel Prudence Charity 1773-1862 Benjamin Stout married Sarah Wilkinson. Children: Elias Lowther 1799-1881 Others... Elias Lowther Stout married Martha Hathorne. He was a farmer, hatter, and fur trader, born in Pruntytown, WV; moved to Pleasants County around 1840. Children:
